Nickname: The Gunners
Stadium: Emirates Stadium (Capacity 60,704)
Manager: Mikel Arteta (ESP)
Last Season: 2nd
Whether you think Arsenal over-performed or bottled the title last season, Mikel Arteta’s side are clearly looking to bolster their squad after splashing the cash in the transfer window. This campaign they’ll have Champions League football to negotiate as well – do the Gunners have what it takes to challenge for top spot once again?
After signing a new long-term contract until the summer of 2027, Saka’s commitment to the club should be a major boost to Arsenal. Last season saw him hit double-digit goal and assist tallies and if he remains injury free, you’d expect the winger to have another busy and productive campaign.
The England international signed for a club-record and British-record transfer fee this summer. After already sharing the stage with Saka at two international tournaments, you’d expect that the two will mesh quickly in midfield. Rice can come into the team and free up the side’s creative players to really hurt their opponents.
Forest ran out 1-0 winners when the two sides played in May at the City Ground. However, the home leg of this tie saw Arsenal take a convincing 5-0 win and we’re expecting a performance more like that in this season’s opener. New signings Rice, Havertz and Timber will all want to hit the ground running at their new club.
The introduction of Champions League football, combined with the fact that Arsenal are still a relatively young side, makes us think they’ll struggle to replicate the form they started with in 2022/2023. Still a promising bunch nonetheless, the improved squad should still challenge for the Champions League places.
Do Arsenal have what it takes to dethrone Manchester City?
