Preview | February 24
Villa's recent form has seen them drop down to 4th in the table. Their issue has not been creating chances. Their average xG (expected goals) of 1.72 is 6th highest in the league. Ollie Watkins is a key creative influence and has 10 assists this season (1st in the EPL). From a defensive point of view, Boubacar Kamara has been the leader, accumulating 30 tackles and 20 interceptions over the year.
Forest finally secured a win in their last match, but still have the struggles that preceded fresh in their mind. They had lost 3 of their 4 previous matches prior to this most recent breakthrough. Forest have one of the best defences in the league. However, their strong defensive record will be under threat here as they face a Villa side who have averaged 2.0 goals per match this season. Morgan Gibbs-White has been a top playmaker this season with 52 passes into the box over the year (15th in the EPL).
Villa-Forest Prediction: 2-1
This game is in the balance, yet Villa's dangerous frontmen appear as if they will make the difference.
Did you know? A 1-1 draw is the most common scoreline between these two teams in the history of the Premier League, occurring a total of three times.

Nickname: The Tricky Trees
Stadium: City Ground (Capacity 30,445)
Manager: Steve Cooper (WAL)
Last Season: 16th
It was a rollercoaster ride in the East Midlands last season and Forest fans will hope for a smoother sail to safety this time around. The owner's backing of manager Steve Cooper, when Forest were languishing, proved a masterstroke as he turned their fortunes around to secure survival. Can Cooper further repay the faith and improve on last season? We preview their upcoming campaign here.
The goals and assists of Gibbs-White last season helped keep Forest in the league. He'll be raring to go too after a productive summer where he played a lead role in England U21's European Championship victory. Expect the 23-year-old midfielder to have another big season.
Signed from Manchester United, Elanga is still only 21 and has a lot of potential to fulfil. He looked impressive in patches for the Old Trafford club, even notching a Champions League goal, but couldn't hold down a regular spot. It will be fascinating to see how the Swedish international develops with more game time this season.
A tricky tie first up for the Tricky Trees. Last October's visit to the Emirates resulted in a 5-0 embarrassment, and with Arsenal strengthening their squad it looks like a daunting task. Forest did get the better of the Gunners (1-0 at the City Ground) last time they met though, so will take confidence from that.
Steve Cooper's biggest task last season was to make the many new signings gel. That should be less of a problem this time round with the signings that are still at Forest having had another year to settle. So if they can start contributing some points on the road (they only had one away win last season) then their home form should see them to safety again.
Can Forest's talisman be their creative spark?
Morgan Gibbs-White - To assist 10+ EPL goals: 2.50

Did you know? Nottingham Forest's badge shows a tree representing Sherwood Forest, home to the legend of Robin Hood, and the river Trent running underneath it. The two stars represent Forest's two European Cups (1979 and 1980).
