There’s a brilliant opportunity for poker players to give something back in Malta today when the SiGMA Foundation charity tournament gets started at 6pm local time.

The tournament has a €300 buy-in, of which €200 goes into the prize pool and €100 goes directly to charity. That gets you entry to the tournament and 10,000 in chips. But it gets even better: for the whole registration period (eight levels), players can add on for €50, getting themselves another 10,000 chips.

Of the add on fee, €25 goes to the prize pool and €25 into the charity pot. It’s a great value tournament for a great cause, with PokerStars Ambassadors certain also to be in attendance–and with a generous bounty on their heads.

‘EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES, ONE STEP AT A TIME’

Founded in 2019, the SiGMA Foundation is a Malta-based charity that has a global focus, offering support to numerous causes across the world. Its mission is to support underserved communities through infrastructure, education, and healthcare initiatives.

Since its inception, the Foundation has raised and invested more than €2 million in projects across Africa, South America and Southeast Asia.

The Foundation’s website features mini-documentaries focusing on it activities in Brazil, Peru, Ethiopia and the Philippines, among others. “Our mission is to empower those in need the most through fundraising events, charity work, education programs and skills training,” it states. “Together, we can create transform lives for the better and forge a lasting legacy of positive change.”

Donations from the tournament at EPT Malta will go directly to support the roll out of a school development project in Kasese, Uganda which will see new classrooms, staff housing, kitchen and bathroom facilities built for children and staff, enabling local children to continue their education beyond kindergarten in a safe and clean environment.

The project also supports the local economy, with employment opportunities for local builders, contractors and educators.

GO BOUNTY HUNTING

James Hartigan and Felix Schneiders will be in the field tonight, with at least one more PokerStars Ambassador committed to play. There will be a backpack of exclusive PokerStars merchandise given to the player who can knock these stars out of the tournament — though they are hardly likely to give it up without a fight.

A bounty on James Hartigan’s head

That’s why it will pay to make sure you have enough chips, and why it’ll be worth taking advantage of the chance to add on. The add ons — worth a full 10,000 in chips, remember, will be collected in CASH ONLY throughout the tournament registration period (between hands only; maximum stack of 30,000).

It will be a terrific night for a great cause, with the emphasis very much on the two fs: fun and fundraising.

Come along and join in!

THANKS FROM THE FOUNDATION

“We’re grateful to PokerStars and the EPT Malta team for this opportunity to collaborate”, said a SiGMA Foundation spokesperson. “The support of the team and the players will directly contribute to changing the lives of hundreds of children for the better – giving them not only access to education but the tools and environment to thrive”.

“We’re very proud to be working with SiGMA Foundation to support the vital work they do across the globe”, said Cedric Billot, Associate Director, Live Events Operations. “Poker players are a global community and tournaments like this are an important reminder that we have a collective responsibility to support and develop other communities across the world, beyond our own bubble. We’ve seen before that poker can be a powerful tool for greater good and I’m confident that our players will make SiGMA Foundation proud and provide huge support for this great cause.”
